The first week of November marks the start of my Great Walks journey — beginning with Lake Waikaremoana (weather permitting!). I’m really looking forward to it. It’ll be my first time on this track, a 46km one-way adventure starting from Onepoto in the south, which I’m aiming to complete over three days.
The area has an incredible history — it’s the ancestral home of the Tūhoe people and the first natural feature in New Zealand to be recognised by law as a legal entity in its own right. I’m hoping to learn more about the cultural and spiritual significance of this remarkable place along the way.
Fingers crossed for good weather — it can turn wild out there at any time of year! And remember, I’m walking to raise money for Dementia NZ. If you’d like to support the cause, just click the donate tab above — every bit helps (a little… or a lot!)
